Isaac Saul

Saul was originally associated with G.B. Wright's project building part of the Cariboo Road. Later, with his partner William Innes, he pre-empted the lot at the head of the Painted Chasm.

This was a good location because it was at the end of a long climb from Pollard's through the Cut-Off Valley.

Innes was bought out by Saul in 1867, and Saul & Company was formed to run the 59 Mile House. Isaac and his brother John had come from Ontario in the earliest days of the gold rush, and had acquired, by the mid-1870s, a large amount of land between Clinton and Lac la Hache.
